There are several poetry volumes in the Reference collection to get started on poetry research. Masterplots II Poetry Series consists of eight volumes, and it is organized alphabetically by poem title. Not all poems by a certain author are listed, but there is a large selection to investigate. For example, “Daddy” and “Lady Lazarus” have individual entries in this series.
Additionally, the Critical Survey of Poetry collection is made of individual poet entries. For example, information can be found on Sylvia Plath in Volume 5. Her entry contains a list of her works, achievements, a brief biography, and on overall analysis of her writing style. There is also discussion on six of her poems.
Outside of the Reference collection house in the library, there are also a few databases that may prove useful, particularly Bloom’s Literary Reference Center and the Literature Resource Center, both of which can be located in the Literature Databases.
