As for types of drugs being abused and demographics of the abuser, there are tons of statistics available. The National Institute on Drug Abuse has several informative tables and some links to national studies. The databases Opposing Viewpoints in Context and SIRS Issues Researcher both have good statistical tables. Just search prescription drug abuse, then look for "statistics in Opposing Viewpoints and "graphics/media" in SIRS. You might also find this report from the White House useful.
Statistics on arrests and convictions are much harder to find. The Department of Justice publishes statistics on arrests for drug-related crimes, but they are not specific to prescription vs. other kinds of drugs.
